The regular workday in Thailand is of eight hours, and the normal workweek can have a maximum of 48 working hours. Although employers and employees can make personal agreements to change daily work hours; it should not be more than 48 hours in the week. If the industry is involved in some hazardous work activities, the daily work routine cannot be more than 7 hours, and it should be less than 42 hours a week. Employees should also be given a one-hour rest period after continuous work of almost five hours. One day off is necessary for the week, and it should not exceed above six days.
Employers in Thailand may request employees for overtime only in case of a few emergency projects. During overtime, they must get 1.5 times higher payout if the overtime belongs to regular workday; however, in case of holiday, it is important to offer two times higher payout. Overtime should not be more than 36 hours in the entire week. When employees need to work for two hours or more as overtime, they should get at least 20 minutes rest period before beginning the overtime work.
There are few reserved national holidays in the country; in case if any of those holidays fall on a weekend, the next day is automatically observed as a holiday. Other than this, employees can get six days of paid leave every year. However, in order to become more competitive, some employers also offer 10 to 15 days paid vacation per year.
